Questions riders ask before this trip

Texada's ferry is a working island lifeline. It loads first come, carries freight, and sometimes lists a sailing ordinary passengers can't use. Read the note beside each departure before you build your day around it.

How early should I arrive for Powell River–Texada Island?

Westview and Blubber Bay load in arrival order. Ticket sales and check-in close five minutes before departure for vehicles and foot passengers. Arrive much earlier than that. The deck is small, and missing it can make the next usable sailing matter a lot.

How do I pay for the Powell River–Texada ferry?

Pay on the charged leg and that fare covers the return. BC Ferries accepts cash, debit, major credit cards and the Experience Card at terminals. Use the live calculator or current guide for the amount because remembered island fares go stale.

Can I park and walk on at Westview or Blubber Bay?

Westview has limited paid parking outside the terminal. Blubber Bay lists 24 limited free spaces. Check the signs, keep the ferry approach clear, and arrange a lift if a full island lot would derail your day. Twenty-four spaces are useful, not certain.

Can I take a bicycle between Powell River and Texada?

Yes. Pay the passenger fare and your bicycle rides free. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, check in at the foot-passenger booth, follow the marked route, and secure the bike where the crew directs. You can't charge an e-bike aboard, so start with a full battery.

Can I reserve the Powell River–Texada ferry?

No. The regular Westview–Blubber Bay crossing loads first come, first served. A reservation note at Blubber Bay applies to Comox-bound vehicles on a different through sailing. It doesn't reserve a place on the usual Powell River hop, so check the destination carefully.

What does dangerous-goods-only mean on the schedule?

Ordinary passengers can't use that sailing. It carries prohibited or excess dangerous cargo, so don't count it as a ride to or from Texada. Look for the Dangerous goods only label in the schedule and choose another departure unless you're shipping qualified cargo.

Where is Blubber Bay compared with Texada's communities?

Blubber Bay is at Texada's north end, about 10 minutes by road from Van Anda and 20 minutes from Gillies Bay. The ramp isn't in a village centre. Arrange your onward ride before sailing, especially if you're walking on with luggage.

Does the tide matter for a low car, trailer or rear rack?

Yes. Extreme tides can make the ramp too steep for low-clearance vehicles, long overhangs and some trailers. Staff may hold one for a later sailing to prevent damage. Check the official tide page before bringing an unusually low or long setup.
