Questions riders ask before this trip

The Gambier boat is small, useful and refreshingly unfussy. Bring cash or a prepaid ticket, check whether New Brighton requires a pickup request, and arrange the island leg before leaving Langdale. Once those details are set, the short passenger crossing is easy to enjoy.

How early should I arrive for Langdale–Gambier Island?

Langdale closes ticket sales and check-in five minutes before departure; arrive 20 to 30 minutes early so the cutoff stays irrelevant. Call or text at least one hour before the scheduled trip and leave your name, phone number, travel time and pickup location. From New Brighton, some sailings are on request.

How do I pay for the Langdale–New Brighton ferry?

The fare is one way. Don't board expecting tap-to-pay. The current fare guide says the vessel accepts only cash or prepaid tickets; use a terminal if you need to pay by card. Ticket books are sold at the Horseshoe Bay foot-passenger booth, the Langdale administration office and Passages on select ferries.

Can I park at Langdale or New Brighton and walk on?

Langdale has paid short- and long-term parking; New Brighton lists 20 free off-street spaces. Check the return sailing and parking duration together. An available space doesn't make a missed last boat any less inconvenient, and the mainland lot has its own payment rules.

Can I take a bicycle to Gambier Island?

Yes. Your passenger fare covers the bike, and the route table also shows stowage as free. Stormaway IV is a small passenger boat, so tell the operator ahead of time if you're bringing a bulky cycle and let the crew choose where it goes.

Can I bring a vehicle to Gambier Island?

No reservation is available. New Brighton provides foot-passenger pickup and drop-off only; vehicles can't travel on this route. Park at Langdale or use a separate private transport service. If your destination isn't near the dock, arrange the island-side leg before departure rather than treating New Brighton like a staffed transport hub.

Is the Gambier ferry reservable?

No; BC Ferries lists Langdale–Gambier–Keats as non-bookable. Check the current timetable, make the one-hour call when marked, and have a fallback if the final useful sailing changes. Some island pickups still require advance notice, which is a request instead of a reserved seat.

Can I connect from the Horseshoe Bay ferry?

Some Langdale departures wait for the arriving Horseshoe Bay ferry, according to the terminal guidance. Use the current timetable to pair the sailings and give yourself enough time to find the passenger-ferry dock instead of following the vehicle flow. The promise is attached to some departures, not the entire day.

What is waiting at New Brighton?

Very little. BC Ferries lists no public transportation, accessibility options or terminal amenities at New Brighton. Bring water and everything you need for the day, confirm your accommodation or pickup, and check the actual walking distance from the dock before sailing.
