Questions riders ask before this trip
This little Saanich Inlet ferry is a lovely alternative to the Malahat, but it isn't a guaranteed shortcut. The car deck is small and neither terminal has parking. Go for the calmer crossing, and keep your timing flexible.
How early should I arrive for Brentwood Bay–Mill Bay?
Boarding is first come, first served. At Brentwood Bay, foot check-in closes three minutes before sailing and vehicle check-in closes at five; Mill Bay reverses those cutoffs. Arrive well ahead of either deadline because the small deck can fill early.

Pay a one-way fare in each direction. BC Ferries lists cash, credit, debit and prepaid paper tickets for this route, but not the Experience Card. Check the live guide before travelling rather than relying on an old fare amount.

Neither terminal has BC Ferries parking. Nearby streets and businesses aren't unofficial ferry lots, so don't plan on finding a spare space at the ramp. Use transit, a taxi or a drop-off, and arrange your pickup at the other end before sailing.

Yes. Pay the passenger fare and your bicycle rides free. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, identify yourself at check-in, walk aboard through the vehicle deck, and secure the bike where the crew directs. While waiting, keep the small terminal ramp and vehicle line clear.

No. Vehicles load by arrival order, and a ticket doesn't hold deck space. A busy line on this small route can mean waiting through one or more sailings. Check conditions, bring water, and keep the road option open when the appointment matters more than the ferry.

Not reliably. The crossing takes about 25 minutes and avoids the Malahat, but waiting, loading or a full deck can erase the shortcut. Choose it for the calmer, prettier trip. If arrival time is all that matters, compare current road and ferry conditions.

Only within the route limits. Vehicles can be no longer than 40 feet or heavier than 8,000 kg gross, and buses must be 30 feet or shorter. Measure the whole rig, including hitch-mounted gear, before joining the queue.

Brentwood Bay is at the end of Verdier Road, about 30 minutes north of Victoria. Mill Bay is at the end of Ferry Road, roughly 10 minutes south of the village. Both list transit or taxis, but check the current connection or arrange a pickup before arriving at these small terminals.
