Questions riders ask before this trip
For Pender–Saturna, confirm the sailing and the ride from Lyall Harbour before you leave. This is first-come service, roadside parking on Saturna is modest, and the boat may call at another island. A little planning keeps this small-island day pleasantly simple.
How early should I arrive for the Otter Bay–Lyall Harbour ferry?
Arrive early when missing the sailing would undo the day. This inter-island connection is non-bookable and loads in arrival order. Otter Bay closes check-in five minutes before departure for foot passengers and three minutes before for vehicles; Lyall Harbour closes five minutes before for both.

Pay at the terminal. Use the current guide and check its effective date before budgeting. The official fare guide lists Southern Gulf Islands inter-island travel as a one-way fare, so the trip back isn't bundled into the outward fare. Cash, debit, major credit cards and BC Ferries Experience Cards are accepted at terminals.

Otter Bay has limited free parking with a 48-hour maximum. Lyall Harbour offers free roadside parking instead of a large terminal lot. Neither end suits an unplanned long-term stay. Both are small-island arrangements, so arrive with a fallback and leave loading approaches, driveways and road access clear.

Yes, bring the bike. Bikes travel free with the passenger fare. Bring water, lights and a repair kit: the islands are rewarding rides, but neither is a flat city cycleway. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, identify the bicycle at check-in, walk it aboard under crew direction and secure it on the vehicle deck.

No. Cars board this island hop in arrival order, and a Tsawwassen reservation gives you no priority here. Recheck the schedule near travel day. If a tour, pickup or check-in has a hard time, keep the next departure available.

Sometimes the connection sits inside a longer island sequence. Unless the itinerary says otherwise, remain aboard through intermediate stops and follow crew directions. Stop patterns change between departures, so read the exact sailing rather than assuming every Pender–Saturna option takes the same path or time.

BC Ferries lists the Saturna Lions Shuttle at Lyall Harbour. Confirm its current schedule or arrange an accommodation pickup before travel; the terminal page does not promise frequent walk-up service. If neither is available, plan a realistic walk or bike ride from the dock.

Otter Bay lists an accessible washroom, wheelchairs and boarding assistance; Lyall Harbour lists an accessible washroom. Contact BC Ferries ahead if you need specific boarding support at Saturna. Otter Bay also has a waiting room and Wi-Fi, while Lyall has a waiting room and Wi-Fi with shopping nearby.
