Questions riders ask before this trip
Otter Bay–Village Bay is an easy island hop once you settle the small-terminal details. Parking is limited, vehicles load first-come, and your sailing may include another stop. Check the route and your onward ride, then relax into the crossing.
How early should I arrive for the Otter Bay–Village Bay ferry?
Arrive early when a full deck or missed pickup would cause trouble. This inter-island connection is non-bookable and loads in arrival order. Otter Bay closes check-in five minutes before departure for foot passengers and three minutes before for vehicles; Village Bay closes five minutes before for both.

Pay at the terminal. Build your budget from the current guide and its effective date, not a saved fare. Southern Gulf Islands inter-island travel is listed as a one-way fare, so the fare home is separate instead of included. Terminals accept cash, debit, major credit cards and BC Ferries Experience Cards.

Otter Bay has limited free parking with a 48-hour maximum. Village Bay lists 12 free spaces outside the terminal, also with a 48-hour limit. Obey posted limits and keep ferry approaches clear. Both can fill, so don't make a small island lot the only version of your plan.

Yes, bring the bike. Bikes ride free with the passenger fare. Pack lights, water and repair basics; both terminals have bike racks, but the island road is the larger part of the ride. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, identify the bicycle at check-in, walk it aboard under crew direction and secure it on the vehicle deck.

No. Cars load by arrival order between Pender and Mayne, and a Tsawwassen reservation holds no space here. Check the latest schedule and arrive with margin. When the day has a deadline, make sure the following departure still works.

Some departures may include another island stop. You normally remain aboard through intermediate stops unless the published itinerary or crew explicitly directs a transfer. Southern Gulf Islands sequences vary, so use the exact sailing's stop list and travel time rather than guessing from the map.

BC Ferries lists Mayne Island Transportation at Village Bay, but the terminal page won't guarantee a frequent scheduled bus. Walking from the ramp isn't a universal solution, and a bicycle or arranged ride makes a car-free day much more dependable. Confirm current service or a pickup before travel.

Village Bay lists an accessible washroom, wheelchairs and boarding assistance, plus a washroom, waiting room, Wi-Fi, bike rack, pet area and picnic space. Ask for boarding help before the cutoff and bring anything the island leg requires. Otter Bay offers a similar compact set with a snack kiosk.
