Questions riders ask before this trip
Swartz Bay–Fulford Harbour is a fine way onto Salt Spring, but it is first-come. Arrive with time for the vehicle queue, and line up your bus, taxi or pickup before you sail if you are walking on. The crossing is short enough to enjoy and too useful to gamble on a tight plan.
How early should I arrive for the Swartz Bay–Fulford Harbour ferry?
Arrive early, watch live deck space and allow for a sailing wait when timing matters. This route is first-come and non-bookable. Swartz Bay stops checking in foot passengers ten minutes before departure and vehicles five minutes before; Fulford closes check-in three minutes before for both.

Pay at the terminal; this route is non-bookable. Use the current fare guide instead of saving an old price. BC Ferries publishes a return fare, so one fare covers the round trip instead of charging again on the return leg. Terminals accept cash, debit, major credit cards and BC Ferries Experience Cards.

Swartz Bay has 716 paid spaces, 172 short-term and 544 long-term, with app, card and limited cash payment options. For a car-free Salt Spring visit, leave the vehicle at Swartz Bay; don't arrive at Fulford expecting a ferry-terminal lot. Fulford Harbour lists no parking at all.

Yes, bring the bike. Bikes are free with the passenger fare. At Fulford, the official warning matters: the public road has limited shoulder and no bike lane, so consider waiting for discharged vehicle traffic before riding away. BC Ferries says to arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, identify the bicycle at check-in and walk it on when directed.

No. The Fulford run is first-come, and a Tsawwassen booking or another terminal queue means nothing here. Check live deck space, get into the Fulford lane and give any same-day connection enough slack for a sailing wait.
Source: Official Swartz Bay–Fulford Current Conditions ↗Is Fulford Harbour practical without a car?
It can be, but solve the onward leg before boarding. Salt Spring's main roads are hilly and often shoulderless; walking or cycling from the berth is a real journey, not an extension of the ferry ramp. Fulford has no terminal parking and BC Ferries lists a taxi instead of public transit on the terminal page.

Fulford lists an accessible washroom, wheelchairs and boarding assistance. Ask BC Ferries for boarding help before the cutoff, particularly if vehicle-deck movement or the transfer between terminal levels may be difficult. Swartz Bay adds an elevator, wheelchair access to the ferry and accessible parking.

Swartz Bay is the full-service end, with washrooms, waiting room, baggage service, Wi-Fi, food, shopping and an ATM. Pack for the island end and check opening hours rather than assuming every nearby café matches the sailing day. Fulford is smaller but has a waiting room, washroom, bike rack and nearby food.
