Commuter guide

Questions riders ask before this trip

The downtown Campbell River ferry makes Quadra feel close, but the first-come line gets busy. Sort out parking before you arrive. If you're continuing to Cortes, leave time for a 15-minute drive across Quadra to a different terminal.

How early should I arrive for Campbell River–Quadra Island?

Both terminals load in order of arrival, and check-in plus ticket sales close three minutes before departure. Arrive far earlier with a vehicle, especially during commutes and summer peaks. Beating the cutoff doesn't guarantee room on that sailing.

How do I pay for the Campbell River–Quadra ferry?

Pay on the charged leg and that fare covers the return. Staffed booths accept debit, major credit cards, mobile wallets, cash and the Experience Card. Campbell River also has a foot-passenger payment station, but you still have to check in.

Can I park and walk on at Campbell River or Quathiaski Cove?

Campbell River lists no terminal parking, despite the downtown location. Quathiaski Cove has limited paid parking nearby through the Quadra Island Harbour Authority. Walking on is easy. Leaving a car takes planning, so confirm a legal city lot, drop-off or Quadra space first.

Can I take a bicycle between Campbell River and Quadra?

Yes. Pay the passenger fare and the bicycle travels free. Arrive 30 to 60 minutes early, check in as directed, walk aboard through the vehicle deck, and secure the bike where the crew indicates. Both terminals have racks, but you can't charge an e-bike there or aboard.

Can I reserve the Campbell River–Quadra ferry?

No. Both directions load first come, first served, and paying a fare doesn't hold deck space. If an appointment or Cortes connection matters, leave room to miss a sailing. Check current conditions and notices before leaving, then trust the live queue over a saved timetable.

How do I continue from Campbell River to Cortes Island?

The Campbell River ferry lands at Quathiaski Cove. Cortes ferries leave from Heriot Bay, about a 15-minute drive across Quadra, so you must get off and join another queue. Quathiaski Cove lists no local transit. Without a vehicle, arrange that ride before you sail.

What does assured loading at Quathiaski Cove cover?

BC Ferries marks the 9:00 am Quathiaski Cove sailing on Monday and Thursday for Assured Loading for Cortes Island traffic. The priority is that specific connection, not every Quadra trip or Cortes itinerary. Confirm the day and current notice before counting on it.

Does the tide matter for a low vehicle at Campbell River?

Yes. BC Ferries flags Campbell River for extreme-tide loading issues. Staff may hold a very low vehicle or one with a long rear overhang for a later sailing to prevent ramp damage. Check the tide before bringing a low car, RV, bus or long trailer.
