Commuter guide

Questions riders ask before this trip

Alliford Bay–Skidegate is short, frequent and wonderfully practical, but the shore-side details still matter. There are no reservations, almost no check-in cushion and no parking at Alliford Bay. Know how you are reaching the ramp, then enjoy the small crossing that joins Haida Gwaii's two main islands.

How early should I arrive for Alliford Bay–Skidegate?

Vehicles load in arrival order, so arrive with more than the bare cutoff when the sailing matters. At both Alliford Bay and Skidegate, foot-passenger check-in closes five minutes before departure and vehicle check-in closes three minutes before. Those cutoffs are not sensible arrival targets on a busy day.

Where do I pay for Alliford Bay–Skidegate, and does the fare cover my return?

Pay at the terminal. The Route 26 fare covers the return trip, so you do not buy the same fare again on the way back. BC Ferries lists cash, debit, major credit cards and Experience Cards at the terminals. Check the current fare guide's effective date before budgeting.

Can I park at Alliford Bay or Skidegate and walk on?

Alliford Bay has no terminal parking. Skidegate has limited paid parking at $2 per day or $10 per week, with a maximum stay of one week; longer stays risk towing. If you are connecting from Sandspit or leaving a vehicle behind, arrange that plan before reaching the ramp.

Can I take a bicycle between Moresby and Graham islands?

Yes. Bicycles travel free with the passenger fare. Identify the bike at check-in, walk it aboard under crew direction and secure it on the vehicle deck. Carry lights, water and repair basics because the ride beyond either ferry ramp is the larger part of the day.

Can I reserve a place on the Alliford Bay ferry?

No. This shuttle boards vehicles in arrival order. On a day with a flight, tour or fixed accommodation check-in, arrive with room for a full deck and keep the following sailing workable. Recheck the live schedule because a frequent route can still have interruptions.

How do I connect from Sandspit Airport to Alliford Bay?

Alliford Bay is about a 20-minute drive from Sandspit Airport. BC Ferries lists Eagle Transit, but you should confirm the service and arrange any rental-car handoff or pickup before flying. The terminal has a waiting shelter, not a full-service transport hub.

What accessibility facilities are at Alliford Bay?

Alliford Bay lists an accessible portable toilet and a waiting shelter. Skidegate has an accessible washroom, wheelchairs and boarding assistance. Contact BC Ferries before travel if you need a particular boarding arrangement, and identify the need before the short check-in window closes.

Can I continue from Skidegate without a car?

Skidegate lists Eagle Transit and Gwaii Taxi. Confirm the current timetable or book a pickup instead of assuming every ferry has a connection. The terminal has a waiting room, Wi-Fi and baggage service, useful if your onward ride does not line up neatly with the crossing.
