Questions riders ask before this trip

East 90th Street–East 34th Street is a crosstown ferry masquerading as a downtown ride. Astoria, Roosevelt Island and Long Island City sit between the Manhattan landings, so the water takes the scenic route while the city stays on your left. It is a lovely one-seat option when both ends suit you; count the avenue walks before declaring it the fast one.

How early should I arrive for East 90th Street–East 34th Street?

Reach the landing before the posted departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and missing this boat costs more than the 24-to-28-minute ride. At East 90th, use the FDR Drive waterfront; at East 34th, the dock is actually at East 35th Street.

How much is the ferry between East 90th and East 34th?

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Astoria, Roosevelt Island and Long Island City are intermediate stops, not transfers, so activate one ticket and stay aboard. The return trip is a new fare.

Can I park at East 90th Street or East 34th Street?

Do not build this trip around parking. NYC Ferry says it is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the M31 or M86 SBS near East 90th and the M34 or M15 near East 34th; both docks also require a waterfront walk from the subway.

Can I bring a bicycle between the two Manhattan landings?

Yes, if the boat's roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack has room. Bikes stay outdoors on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings have racks and nearby Citi Bike docks, so renting at either end may be easier than risking a full ferry rack.

Is East 90th Street–East 34th Street a direct ferry?

It is one boat but not nonstop. The Astoria route calls at Astoria, Roosevelt Island and Long Island City between the Manhattan docks. Regular weekday and weekend examples run about 24 to 28 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran 25 to 31 minutes during that dated exception.

Where exactly is the East 90th Street landing?

The dock is at East 90th Street and FDR Drive. NYC Ferry lists the M31 and M86 SBS nearby, plus the N/Q/R at East 86th Street and Second Avenue farther inland. Its accessible pickup and drop-off address is 99 East End Avenue.

Where exactly is the East 34th Street landing?

It is at East 35th Street and FDR Drive, not at the subway station implied by the name. The M34 reaches the terminal, the M15 runs on First Avenue and the 4/6 are near 33rd and Park. Include that crosstown distance in your plan.

Is the ferry faster than taking an uptown bus or subway?

Only sometimes. The boat is a comfortable 24-to-28-minute one-seat ride, but it serves three intermediate landings and both docks sit east of the subway. Compare the complete trip, including waiting and walking. The ferry wins most clearly when both destinations are near the river.
