Commuter guide

Questions riders ask before this trip

East 90th Street–Astoria is the Astoria route's neatest hop: Manhattan to Queens in a handful of minutes, with no intermediate stop and an open-water view of both shores. The boat is the easy part. East 90th sits east of the subway grid and Astoria lands at Hallets Cove, so the route shines when the waterfront is where you actually want to be.

How early should I arrive for East 90th Street–Astoria?

Arrive before the posted departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and missing the boat costs far more than this 3-to-6-minute crossing. At East 90th, use FDR Drive; in Astoria, navigate to 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on the Hallets Cove waterfront.

How much is the East 90th Street–Astoria ferry?

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, sold in the NYC Ferry app and at landing machines. These are consecutive stops, so there is no transfer and no reason to activate a second ticket. The return ride is a new fare.

Can I park at East 90th Street or Astoria?

Neither landing should be treated as a parking destination. NYC Ferry says spaces are very limited near most docks and discourages driving. Use the M31 or M86 SBS uptown; in Astoria, the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 serve the waterfront area.

Can I bring a bicycle on the short East 90th–Astoria crossing?

Yes, if the rack still has space. NYC Ferry boats generally hold about eight to ten bicycles, and bikes remain outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings have racks; East 90th also lists nearby Citi Bike stations.

Is East 90th Street–Astoria a direct ferry?

Yes. The landings are consecutive on the Astoria route, with no intermediate stop and no boat change. Regular weekday and weekend tables show roughly 3 to 6 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran 4 to 7 minutes during that dated exception.

Where is the Astoria ferry landing?

It is at 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on the Hallets Cove waterfront, not beside the N/W subway platforms. NYC Ferry lists the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 as bus options. Count the final walk when comparing the ferry with bridge or subway travel.

Where is the East 90th Street ferry landing?

The dock is at East 90th Street and FDR Drive. The M31 and M86 SBS serve the area, while the N/Q/R station at 86th and Second is several avenues inland. NYC Ferry lists 99 East End Avenue for accessible pickup and drop-off.

Is the ferry practical for a cross-river commute?

It is excellent when both ends are near the landings: the ride itself is only a few minutes and avoids bridge traffic. For inland trips, the walks and schedule can erase that advantage. Compare door-to-door arrival, not just the wonderfully short crossing.
