Questions riders ask before this trip
East 90th Street–Long Island City is a three-shoreline ride: a quick touch at Astoria, a glide past Roosevelt Island, then Gantry Plaza and the Pepsi sign. It is one boat and an easy view, but Long Island City means the waterfront here, not Court Square. Use the ferry when that distinction helps rather than hurts your day.
How early should I arrive for East 90th Street–Long Island City?
Reach the landing before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and a missed sailing outweighs the 17-to-21-minute ride. At East 90th, aim for FDR Drive; in Long Island City, use 46th Avenue and Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza.

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Astoria and Roosevelt Island are intermediate stops, not transfers, so stay aboard with one activated ticket. The ride back is a new fare.

Do not make parking the plan. NYC Ferry says it is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the M31 or M86 SBS near East 90th; in Long Island City, walk, cycle, take the Q102/Q103 or allow time from the F, 7, E or M.

Yes, subject to the roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack limit. Bikes stay outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings have racks, and each end has Citi Bike nearby, which may be easier than carrying a bicycle at a busy departure.

It is a one-seat ride with Astoria and Roosevelt Island in between. Regular weekday and weekend examples take roughly 17 to 21 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran 18 to 23 minutes during that dated exception. Stay aboard at both stops.

The dock is at 46th Avenue and Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza. It is not at Court Square: the 7, E and M there require a walk, as does the F at 21st Street. Use the waterfront address when judging the connection.

NYC Ferry lists the M31 and M86 SBS, plus Citi Bike stations near East End Avenue and York Avenue. The N/Q/R at East 86th and Second are farther inland. Its accessible pickup and drop-off point is 99 East End Avenue.

It can be for waterfront-to-waterfront travel, but the boat makes two stops and runs on a timetable. Inland origins or destinations add enough walking to change the answer. Compare door-to-door arrivals and remember that an NYC Ferry ticket does not include an MTA transfer.
