Questions riders ask before this trip
East 34th Street–Wall Street on the Astoria route is the Navy Yard way downtown. One boat crosses to Brooklyn Navy Yard, then swings back to Pier 11, so it is neither a Manhattan-shore shortcut nor the long East River tour. Read the Astoria qualifier at the queue, settle in for the harbor view, and use the arrival paired with your sailing when the clock matters.
How early should I arrive for the Astoria ferry between East 34th and Wall Street?
Arrive before the posted departure with your ticket ready and join the Astoria queue. Four NYC Ferry services share these endpoints, and boarding is first-come. Confirm both the route and downtown direction before the line moves, then keep the next sailing workable if you have a firm appointment.

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Brooklyn Navy Yard is an intermediate stop, not a transfer, so stay aboard. A later change to another NYC Ferry route is free within 120 minutes of activation; the ride back is a new fare.

Do not build this trip around parking. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. East 34th works better by M34, M15, bicycle or a crosstown walk; Pier 11 works better by downtown subway, bus, bicycle or walking.

Yes, while the rack has room. NYC Ferry vessels generally carry about eight to ten bicycles, and crew may stop boarding bikes at capacity. Bikes stay outdoors on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings have racks and nearby Citi Bike docks.

Brooklyn Navy Yard is the only scheduled stop between them. Stay on the boat there; no transfer is needed. That Brooklyn sweep is what distinguishes this service from South Brooklyn via Corlears Hook and Rockaway–Soundview via Stuyvesant Cove.

Current published examples run roughly 24 to 30 minutes depending on direction and day, with Brooklyn Navy Yard between. Weekend and weekday rows are not identical. Treat that as a planning range, not a permanent promise: check the departure and arrival for today's sailing.

Choose by arrival time and route label. Astoria goes via Brooklyn Navy Yard; South Brooklyn via Corlears Hook; Rockaway–Soundview via Stuyvesant Cove; East River loops through DUMBO and other Brooklyn or Queens stops. The endpoints match, but the middle and travel time do not.

East 34th has the M34 at the landing, M15 on First Avenue and 4/6 trains near 33rd and Park. Pier 11 is near the 2/3 at Wall Street, J/Z at Broad Street and 1 at South Ferry. Neither subway opens onto the gangway, so allow for the waterfront walk.
