Questions riders ask before this trip
East 34th Street–Astoria is a three-stop East River arc through Long Island City and Roosevelt Island. Midtown slips behind, the Queens waterfront opens up, and Hallets Cove arrives roughly 20 to 23 minutes later. It is a fine one-seat ride when the landings fit; neither neighborhood name means the subway is waiting at the gangway.
How early should I arrive for East 34th Street–Astoria?
Be at the landing before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and a missed boat costs more than the roughly 20-to-23-minute ride. East 34th boards at East 35th and FDR Drive; Astoria boards at 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on Hallets Cove.

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Long Island City and Roosevelt Island are intermediate stops, not transfers, so stay aboard with one activated ticket. The return is a new fare.

Do not plan around ferry parking. NYC Ferry says it is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the M34 or M15 in Manhattan; in Astoria, the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 serve the waterfront area, with subway stations farther inland.

Yes, if the roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack has room. Bikes stay outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings list bike racks, and East 34th has nearby Citi Bike docks. At busy times, renting after the ride avoids rack uncertainty.

It is one boat with Long Island City and Roosevelt Island between the endpoints. Regular weekday and weekend examples run about 20 to 23 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran 21 to 24 minutes during that dated exception. Stay aboard at both intermediate landings.

The dock is at 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on the Hallets Cove waterfront, not beside the N/W subway. NYC Ferry lists the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 as nearby buses. Count the final walk when comparing the ferry with bridge or subway travel.

It is at East 35th Street and FDR Drive. The M34 reaches the terminal, the M15 runs on First Avenue and the 4/6 are back at 33rd and Park. Add that crosstown gap before deciding whether the ferry is the quickest choice.

The boat calls at Long Island City and Roosevelt Island before Astoria, and both endpoints require a waterfront approach. Harbor conditions can also affect a sailing. Compare complete door-to-door arrival times rather than measuring the straight line across the map.
