Questions riders ask before this trip
Roosevelt Island–Astoria is the Astoria line's small northbound hop: eight or nine minutes from the island's east shore to Hallets Cove, no transfer and no intermediate landing. It is delightfully simple on the water. The planning belongs on land, where both docks sit apart from the subway points their neighborhood names bring to mind.
How early should I arrive for Roosevelt Island–Astoria?
Be at the landing before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and missing the boat costs far more than the 8-to-9-minute ride. Use East Main Street on Roosevelt Island and 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on the Hallets Cove waterfront.

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. These are consecutive Astoria-route stops, so there is no transfer and no second activation. The return ride is a new fare.

Do not count on ferry parking. NYC Ferry says it is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the RIOC bus or Q102 on Roosevelt Island; in Astoria, the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 serve the waterfront area.

Yes, if the roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack has space. Bikes stay outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings list bike racks. For a short trip, a full rack and the next-boat wait can matter more than the crossing itself.

Yes. The two landings are consecutive, with no intermediate stop and no boat change. Current tables show roughly 8 to 9 minutes depending on direction and day. Check today's departure because the waiting interval matters more than the ride time.

The dock is at 3-10 Astoria Boulevard on Hallets Cove. It is not beside the N/W platforms. NYC Ferry lists the Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 as bus connections, so include the waterfront walk in any subway comparison.

It lands on East Main Street on the island's east side. The F train and tram sit across the island on the west side. Use the RIOC bus or walk across, and give Access-A-Ride the official 860 East Road pickup address.

Very, when the timetable lines up. It turns two waterfront neighborhoods into a short one-seat trip and gives a better river view than an indirect land connection. Check the return before leaving, because frequency matters far more than the crossing time.
