Questions riders ask before this trip
Roosevelt Island–Long Island City is five to seven minutes of river between two landings that can feel much farther apart by land. They are consecutive on the Astoria route, so the boat is wonderfully uncomplicated. The useful warning is geographic: both docks serve the waterfront, while the tram, F train and Court Square sit elsewhere.
How early should I arrive for Roosevelt Island–Long Island City?
Arrive before the posted departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and a missed sailing dwarfs the 5-to-7-minute crossing. On Roosevelt Island use East Main Street; in Long Island City use 46th Avenue and Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza.

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, sold in the NYC Ferry app and at landing machines. The two landings are consecutive, so no transfer is needed. A later change to another NYC Ferry route can be free within 120 minutes; the return is separate.

Neither dock is a dependable parking destination. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the RIOC bus or Q102 on the island; in Long Island City, use Q102/Q103, bicycle or walk from the F, 7, E or M.

Yes, while the roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack has room. Bikes remain outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both docks have bike racks, and Long Island City has nearby Citi Bike stations if renting after the crossing is easier.

Yes. They are consecutive Astoria-route stops with no landing in between and no boat change. Regular weekday and weekend tables show roughly 5 to 7 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran 6 to 8 minutes during that dated exception.

It is at 46th Avenue and Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza, not at Court Square. The F at 21st Street and the 7, E and M at Court Square all require a walk. Use the waterfront address when judging the trip.

The ferry lands on East Main Street, while the tram and F train are on the west side of the island. They are useful connections, not pier-side transfers. Use the RIOC bus or allow enough time to cross the island without sprinting.

For waterfront-to-waterfront travel, the 5-to-7-minute crossing is hard to beat. For inland destinations, the walks and wait can reverse the answer. Compare complete arrival times and remember that NYC Ferry does not include an MTA transfer.
