Questions riders ask before this trip

Astoria–Long Island City is a compact Queens waterfront ride with one island in the middle. Roosevelt Island makes it a 13-to-16-minute one-seat trip rather than a straight sprint south, which is no hardship when the river is behaving. The route is most useful for waterfront destinations; both subway networks sit inland from their ferry names.

How early should I arrive for Astoria–Long Island City?

Arrive before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come, and a missed sailing outweighs the 13-to-16-minute ride. Use 3-10 Astoria Boulevard at Hallets Cove and 46th Avenue at Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza.

How much is the Astoria–Long Island City ferry?

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Roosevelt Island is an intermediate stop, not a transfer, so stay aboard and use one activated ticket. The return ride is a new fare.

Can I park at Astoria or Long Island City?

Neither landing is designed around ferry parking. NYC Ferry says spaces are very limited near most docks and discourages driving. Astoria has Q18, Q19, Q102 and Q103 service; Long Island City has Q102/Q103, Citi Bike and inland subway options.

Can I bring a bicycle between Astoria and Long Island City?

Yes, while the roughly eight-to-ten-bike rack has room. Bikes stay outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Both landings have racks, and Long Island City lists nearby Citi Bike docks. A full rack can mean waiting.

Is Astoria–Long Island City a direct ferry?

It is one boat but not nonstop. The route calls at Roosevelt Island between the Queens landings, and you stay aboard there. Across both directions and the current weekday and weekend tables, examples run roughly 13 to 16 minutes. Check today's paired times.

Where is the Long Island City ferry landing?

It is at 46th Avenue and Center Boulevard beside Gantry Plaza. Court Square's 7, E and M and the F at 21st Street require a walk. The Pepsi sign and waterfront park are better landmarks for this ferry than the subway map.

Is the ferry useful for travel within Queens?

Yes when both destinations are near the river. It avoids bridge traffic and gives a calm one-seat link through Roosevelt Island. For inland Astoria or Court Square, compare the waterfront walks and waiting time with the bus or subway before choosing.
