Questions riders ask before this trip

East 34th Street–North Williamsburg is a one-boat escape from Midtown's far east edge to the North 6th Street waterfront. East River A is the quicker pattern; Local service bends through Hunters Point South and Greenpoint first. Current applicable trips span about 12 to 24 minutes, before either end's walk is counted.

How early should I arrive for East 34th Street–North Williamsburg?

Reach the landing before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come. East 34th is actually at East 35th Street and FDR Drive; North Williamsburg is at North 6th and Kent. Check for East River A or Local, because B skips North Williamsburg.

How much is the ferry to North Williamsburg?

The current regular fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. Intermediate Queens or Brooklyn stops stay on the same ticket. The return is another fare, and the subway or bus uses a separate MTA payment.

Can I park at East 34th Street or North Williamsburg?

Do not plan around ferry parking. NYC Ferry says it is very limited near most landings and discourages driving. Use the M34 or M15 in Manhattan. North Williamsburg lists the B32, B62 and Q59, with the L inland at Bedford Avenue.

Can I bring a bicycle to North Williamsburg?

Yes if the outdoor rack still has room. NYC Ferry says boats generally accommodate about eight to ten bicycles, and another bike may wait once capacity is reached. Both landings list racks and Citi Bike docks, so renting after the crossing can be simpler.

Is East 34th Street–North Williamsburg direct?

It is one boat on East River A and Local sailings. A runs through Hunters Point South before North Williamsburg; Local also calls at Greenpoint. Across compatible current weekday and weekend rows, examples run about 12 to 24 minutes. East River B does not serve North Williamsburg.

Where exactly is the North Williamsburg landing?

The dock is at North 6th Street and Kent Avenue. The L train is inland at Bedford Avenue and North 7th Street, not beside the ferry. NYC Ferry lists 2 North 5th Street as the Access-A-Ride pickup and drop-off point.

Why does one sailing take much longer than another?

The route alternates between split and Local patterns. East River A serves Hunters Point South and North Williamsburg; Local adds Greenpoint and the rest of the waterfront sequence. Read the letter and paired arrival time rather than assuming every blue-line boat follows one path.

Is this ferry useful for central Midtown?

Only if the far east side suits you. The landing is on FDR Drive, while Grand Central, Penn Station and most subway lines require another walk or ride. The ferry is excellent for waterfront-to-waterfront travel; it is not automatically the fastest route to Midtown west.
