Commuter guide

Questions riders ask before this trip

East 34th Street–Wall Street on the East River route is the scenic, bridge-threading choice. It is one boat, but not the quick Manhattan-shore hop its endpoints suggest: every trip calls at DUMBO, with A, B or local patterns adding different Brooklyn and Queens stops. Pick it for the waterfront ride, and read the route letter when the clock matters.

How early should I arrive for the East River ferry between East 34th and Wall Street?

Arrive before the posted departure with your ticket ready, then join the East River queue. Both landings serve several routes with the same endpoints, so the boat name matters. Boarding is first-come, and pleasant-weather commuter trips can fill; leave the next sailing usable if an appointment matters.

What does the East River trip from East 34th to Pier 11 cost?

The regular fare is currently $4.50 one way, bought in the NYC Ferry app or at a landing machine. This is a one-seat trip, so no transfer is needed. If you change to another NYC Ferry route, the transfer is free within 120 minutes of activation; the ride back is a new fare.

Can I park at East 34th Street or Pier 11?

Do not plan around parking at either landing. NYC Ferry says space is very limited near most docks and discourages driving. East 34th is better by M34, M15, bicycle or a cross-town walk; Pier 11 is better by downtown subway, bus, bicycle or walking.

Can I bring a bicycle on the East River route to Wall Street?

Yes, while rack space lasts. NYC Ferry boats generally hold about eight to ten bicycles, and crew can stop boarding bikes when full. Keep it outdoors on the bow unless it folds to suitcase size. Citi Bike and bike racks are available near both landings.

Which stops are between East 34th Street and Wall Street on the East River route?

DUMBO is always in the middle. During weekday peaks and non-winter weekends, East River A also uses Hunters Point South and North Williamsburg, while East River B uses Greenpoint and South Williamsburg. Local trips may serve the fuller chain. Check A, B or local before boarding, not just the destination.

How long does the East River ferry take from East 34th to Pier 11?

Across compatible current weekday and weekend rows, examples run about 32 to 49 minutes. A and B are usually shorter than the full Local pattern, but the exact arrival varies by sailing. Use the departure-to-arrival pair for the boat you plan to catch.

Is the East River route the fastest ferry between these Manhattan landings?

Usually not. Rockaway–Soundview and South Brooklyn use shorter Manhattan-side stop patterns, while Astoria runs through Brooklyn Navy Yard and East River loops through Brooklyn and Queens. East River earns its time with DUMBO, bridge and skyline views. Compare all four qualified route names and arrival times rather than assuming identical endpoints mean identical trips.

How do I connect to transit at East 34th Street and Pier 11?

At East 34th, the M34 serves the landing, the M15 runs on First Avenue and the 4/6 subway is several avenues west. At Pier 11, NYC Ferry lists the 2/3 near Wall Street, J/Z at Broad Street and 1 at South Ferry. Include the waterfront walk at both ends.
