Questions riders ask before this trip

Stuyvesant Cove–East 34th is the small, useful hop between two east-side docks. The dated holiday table put it at 7 to 9 minutes, barely enough time to settle in before the next gangway. The catch is on land: both terminals sit east of the subway, so this works best when the waterfront itself is your destination.

How early should I arrive for the Stuyvesant Cove–East 34th ferry?

Reach the landing before the posted departure with your ticket ready and confirm Rockaway–Soundview. Both docks serve boats continuing much farther, and boarding is first-come. Missing a seven-minute hop can cost more time than the ride itself, so leave a little margin.

What does Stuyvesant Cove–East 34th cost?

The regular NYC Ferry fare is currently $4.50 one way, bought in the app or at a landing machine. This is one stop on one boat, not a transfer. A ride back needs another fare because round trips do not qualify for the free-transfer rule.

Can I park at Stuyvesant Cove or East 34th Street?

Do not count on ferry parking at either landing. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited near most docks and discourages driving. Stuyvesant Cove works better by the M9 or M23-SBS; East 34th works better by the M34, M15, bicycle or a planned drop-off.

Can I bring a bicycle on this short ferry hop?

Yes, while the vessel rack has room. NYC Ferry boats generally carry about eight to ten bicycles and may stop bike boarding when full. Both landings connect naturally to the East River greenway, and Citi Bike may be simpler than using a scarce onboard rack for one stop.

Is Stuyvesant Cove–East 34th nonstop?

Yes. The two landings are consecutive on Rockaway–Soundview, so stay aboard and get off at the next stop. Check the direction before boarding: one side continues north toward East 90th and the Bronx, while the other continues south toward Pier 11 and Rockaway.

How long is the ferry between Stuyvesant Cove and East 34th?

NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable scheduled 7 to 9 minutes across the two directions. That was a dated holiday pattern, so use the arrival paired with your live departure for another date.

Which landing is better for the subway?

East 34th is the easier subway end, but it still needs a walk: NYC Ferry lists the 4/6 near East 33rd Street and Park Avenue. Stuyvesant Cove is at East 20th and FDR Drive, with buses at Avenue C or First Avenue rather than a subway at the pier.

When is this tiny ferry trip actually useful?

Use it when both ends of your trip sit near the river, especially the East 20s, Kips Bay or the East 34th medical and waterfront area. If your destination is far inland, compare the full walk and bus time first. The boat ride is quick; reaching the docks is the real calculation.
