Questions riders ask before this trip
Sunset Park/BAT–East 34th is a one-seat waterfront commute from Brooklyn Army Terminal to Midtown's east side. Pier 11 and Stuyvesant Cove sit between, with the dated holiday table running 41 to 45 minutes. It is especially handy when Pier 4 is the Brooklyn destination; the subway still leaves a real walk to the water.
How early should I arrive for the Sunset Park–East 34th ferry?
Arrive before the listed departure with your ticket ready and confirm Rockaway–Soundview. Boarding is first-come, and not every partial run covers the whole line. At BAT, check that East 34th appears in the stop list before committing to the queue.

The regular NYC Ferry fare is currently $4.50 one way. Buy in the app or at a landing machine. Pier 11 and Stuyvesant Cove are intermediate stops, not transfers; a return trip needs a new fare.

Sunset Park/BAT is the practical car end. NYC Ferry lists free public parking on Pier 4, though special events may restrict it. East 34th has no operator lot and parking is very limited, so use the M34, M15, bicycle or a drop-off there.

Yes, if rack space remains. NYC Ferry vessels generally take about eight to ten bicycles and can stop bike boarding when full. Both landings list bike racks and Citi Bike nearby, but beach-bound Rockaway–Soundview boats can attract more bikes than the rack holds.

From Sunset Park/BAT toward Manhattan, the boat calls at Wall Street/Pier 11 and Stuyvesant Cove before East 34th. Stay aboard at both. The Pier 11 timetable prints separate arrival and departure times, so that downtown stop includes a deliberate dwell.

NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ranged from 41 to 45 minutes across both directions. That was a dated holiday pattern and includes the Pier 11 dwell, so check the current paired arrival for your sailing.

NYC Ferry describes the N/R at 59th Street as a short walk east along 58th Street from the waterfront. The B11 stops at 58th and First Avenue, and the B37 at 58th and Third. It is not a same-platform connection, so budget the walk.

It can be when either endpoint is close to the water, you have luggage for Brooklyn Army Terminal, or you value a one-seat ride. The N/R usually win for inland destinations and frequency. Compare the live ferry arrival with the entire walk at both ends, not just time aboard.
