Questions riders ask before this trip
Atlantic Avenue–Governors Island can be a wonderfully short hop from Brooklyn Bridge Park, but only when the day's South Brooklyn pattern actually calls at Yankee Pier. Weekend service changes are the trap here. Check the live route before you leave the playgrounds and lawns, and know that the Trust also runs a different seasonal Pier 6 ferry with its own ticket.
How early should I arrive at Atlantic Avenue or Yankee Pier?
NYC Ferry boarding is first-come, first-served, so arrive before the posted departure with enough time to find the correct line and activate your ticket. This pair is especially schedule-sensitive: South Brooklyn may not serve Yankee Pier on a given weekend pattern. Check the live app before walking to Pier 6.

A regular NYC Ferry one-way ticket is currently $4.50, available in the app or from a landing machine. A transfer to another NYC Ferry route is free for 120 minutes after activation, but riding back is a new trip. Do not assume a Trust for Governors Island reservation or fare works on NYC Ferry.

There is no NYC Ferry municipal lot at this landing. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited near most landings and does not encourage driving. Pier 6 is made for arriving on foot, by bike, bus or subway; if you must drive, research a legal garage separately and leave real time for the waterfront walk.

Yes, if the boat still has rack space. NYC Ferry fits roughly eight to ten bikes and may refuse another once capacity is reached. Keep the bike on the outdoor bow unless it folds to suitcase size. Pier 6 has bike racks and nearby Citi Bike docks; Yankee Pier has a Citi Bike station too.

No. Regular South Brooklyn patterns change with the day and season. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran this one-seat pair only in the morning, taking 14 to 15 minutes; later boats skipped Governors Island and extended to Sunset Park and Bay Ridge. That was a dated exception, so check the live stop list rather than recycling it for another holiday.

Not necessarily. The Trust for Governors Island runs separate seasonal weekend and holiday service from Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6. Its ticket rules and timetable are different from NYC Ferry's South Brooklyn service. Check the operator name before buying, especially if you are chasing a free-morning Trust departure.

The landing is on the Brooklyn Bridge Park Greenway. NYC Ferry lists the B61 and B63 at Atlantic Avenue and Furman Street, the B57 near Court Street, F/G trains at Bergen Street and 4/5 trains near Borough Hall. The park walk is part of the appeal, but budget it honestly.

Check the operator, landing and final departure, not just a generic 'ferry back to Brooklyn.' NYC Ferry uses Yankee Pier, while the Trust has its own services and timetable. If South Brooklyn no longer stops at the island, the practical NYC Ferry route may be the shuttle to Pier 11 and a free transfer onward.
