Questions riders ask before this trip
Atlantic Avenue–Bay Ridge on South Brooklyn is the long local version of a Brooklyn waterfront trip: Red Hook and Brooklyn Army Terminal sit between, with a dated holiday range of 31 to 35 minutes. The St. George route links the same endpoints much faster, so the visible route qualifier is part of the trip plan, not decoration.
How early should I arrive for the South Brooklyn ferry from Pier 6 to Bay Ridge?
Arrive before departure with your ticket ready and confirm South Brooklyn, not St. George. Boarding is first-come. The two routes share these endpoints but use different stops and journey times, so read the qualifier before joining the queue.

The regular NYC Ferry fare is currently $4.50 one way, bought in the app or at a machine. Red Hook and Sunset Park are intermediate calls on the same boat. A return trip needs another fare.

Do not assume either landing has ferry parking. NYC Ferry says space is very limited near most docks and discourages driving. Pier 6 is better by bus, train plus walking or bike; Bay Ridge is better by the B9, B64 or the inland walk from the R train.

Yes, while rack space lasts. NYC Ferry boats generally carry about eight to ten bicycles. A bike is useful at Bay Ridge because American Veterans Memorial Pier is west of the R train, but rack space is not guaranteed.

Full extension trips call at Red Hook/Atlantic Basin and Sunset Park/BAT before Bay Ridge. Stay aboard at both. This is not the St. George route's consecutive-stop version of the same endpoint pair.

NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ranged from 31 to 35 minutes across compatible rows in both directions. That was a dated holiday extension; check that Bay Ridge appears in the current stop list.

The St. George route normally makes these Brooklyn landings consecutive, while South Brooklyn runs through Red Hook and Sunset Park/BAT. Compare the qualified live arrivals, but choose St. George when the next boats are close and speed is the priority.

It is not at the station. NYC Ferry places the landing at American Veterans Memorial Pier and lists the R at Bay Ridge Avenue and Fourth Avenue. The B9 and B64 stop nearer Shore Road, so count the walk or bus connection.
