Questions riders ask before this trip

Governors Island–Corlears Hook is the scenic East River answer to a journey the subway cannot make neatly. On the weekday South Brooklyn route, the boat threads through Brooklyn and Pier 11 before reaching the Lower East Side. Weekend patterns can replace that one-seat ride with a shuttle transfer, so the useful skill is reading the current route rather than memorizing yesterday's map.

How early should I arrive for Governors Island–Corlears Hook?

Be at the correct queue before departure with your ticket ready. Regular NYC Ferry service is first-come, and Yankee Pier service changes with the day and season. Check the live app before leaving the island; if the through South Brooklyn boat is not calling, plan the Pier 11 shuttle and transfer instead.

Do I need two tickets if the trip requires a Pier 11 transfer?

Usually no. A $4.50 NYC Ferry ticket includes transfers to another NYC Ferry route for 120 minutes after activation, so a Yankee Pier shuttle connection at Pier 11 can stay on one fare. A round trip does not count as a transfer, and a Trust-operated Governors Island ferry uses separate ticketing.

Can I park near Corlears Hook?

Do not rely on it. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited near most landings and discourages riders from driving. Corlears Hook sits inside the East River waterfront park area, better reached by bus, bicycle or a purposeful walk. Governors Island does not offer ordinary visitor car access either.

Can I take my bike between Governors Island and Corlears Hook?

Yes, subject to space. Each NYC Ferry carries about eight to ten bikes, and a full rack can mean waiting for another boat. Bikes stay outside on the bow unless they fold to suitcase size. Corlears Hook has nearby Citi Bike docks, while Yankee Pier has a dock on the island.

Is Corlears Hook a direct ferry from Governors Island?

It can be one boat, but it is never nonstop: the ride threads through Red Hook, Atlantic Avenue and Pier 11. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable kept that morning-only through trip and scheduled 30 minutes. Later holiday boats skipped Governors Island, so treat that as a dated exception and check whether today's route needs the Pier 11 shuttle.

How do I get away from Corlears Hook after landing?

The landing is south of the East River Park amphitheater. NYC Ferry lists the M22 and M14A at Cherry and Jackson streets, and the M21 at Grand Street and FDR Drive. There is no nearby subway entrance at the dock, so look at the walking leg before you choose this landing.

Is Corlears Hook accessible for Access-A-Ride pickup?

NYC Ferry lists the accessible pickup and drop-off point as 484 Cherry Street. Put that exact address into the trip plan rather than using the broad waterfront landing description. If you need boarding help, arrive with enough time to identify yourself to the crew before the line moves.

What if I miss the last NYC Ferry from Governors Island?

Do not assume another South Brooklyn departure is coming. NYC Ferry specifically says riders unable to board the final scheduled Governors Island shuttle can use the Trust-provided ferry instead. Check where that boat lands and whether you need a separate fare before the final NYC Ferry queue forms.
