Questions riders ask before this trip
Governors Island–East 34th Street turns a day in the harbor into a full sweep of the East River. It is a multi-stop South Brooklyn ride, not an eight-minute shuttle, and the through service is schedule-dependent. Bring the current timetable, enjoy the skyline changing at every bend, and leave a little patience for the long waterfront journey at either end.
How early should I arrive for Governors Island–East 34th Street?
Arrive before the posted departure with time to confirm the line and activate your ticket. Boarding is first-come, and this is not a reserved express. Yankee Pier may drop out of the South Brooklyn pattern at certain times, so verify the through trip in the live app before leaving the island interior.

The regular NYC Ferry fare is currently $4.50 one way, whether the trip stays on one South Brooklyn boat or needs a Pier 11 transfer. Transfers between NYC Ferry routes are free for 120 minutes after activation. Buy in the app or at a landing machine; the return requires another fare.

NYC Ferry does not list a municipal lot there and says parking is very limited near most landings. Skip the Midtown driving puzzle if you can. The M34 and M15 buses, nearby 4/6 trains, Citi Bike and the waterfront path are the practical approaches; Governors Island itself is car-free for visitors.

Yes, while the rack has room. NYC Ferry carries about eight to ten bicycles per vessel and may not board yours when bike capacity is reached. Keep it on the bow unless it is a suitcase-sized folding bike. East 34th has several nearby Citi Bike docks if you would rather rent after landing.

It can be one boat, but it is not nonstop: Red Hook, Atlantic Avenue, Pier 11 and Corlears Hook sit in between. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable ran the through trip only in the morning, taking 39 to 42 minutes. Later boats skipped Governors Island, so that was a dated exception rather than an all-day rule.

Do not assume the weekday through boat survives unchanged. NYC Ferry can run the South Brooklyn weekend extension without a Governors Island stop, while the island is served by a dedicated shuttle from Pier 11. If that pattern is active, transfer at Pier 11 within the ticket's 120-minute window.

The landing is at East 35th Street and FDR Drive. NYC Ferry lists the M34 at the terminal, the M15 on First Avenue and the 4/6 trains at 33rd Street and Park Avenue. That subway walk is several avenues, so the crosstown bus is often the kinder connection with bags or children.

NYC Ferry gives the accessible pickup and drop-off location as East 35th Street at FDR Drive, the same waterfront address used for the landing. Share that exact point with the driver. The landing has a covered waiting area, useful when the connection and ferry do not line up perfectly.
