Questions riders ask before this trip

Governors Island–Red Hook is the neighborly version of a harbor crossing: Yankee Pier to Atlantic Basin is one short South Brooklyn hop when the route is running through. The hard part is not the water. It is knowing which weekend service is operating, resisting the urge to count on curbside parking, and recognizing that the Trust's Brooklyn ferries are a separate system.

How early should I arrive for Governors Island–Red Hook?

Get to the correct queue before departure and leave a cushion for first-come boarding. On through South Brooklyn service, Red Hook is the next stop from Yankee Pier, but weekend patterns can remove the island stop entirely. Check the live app before crossing Governors Island to the dock.

How do I pay for the ferry between Governors Island and Red Hook?

A regular NYC Ferry ticket is currently $4.50 one way, sold in the app and at landing machines. A same-direction transfer at Pier 11 is free within 120 minutes if the current pattern requires one. Trust for Governors Island Brooklyn service is separate, so its reservation or ticket is not your NYC Ferry fare.

Can I park at the Red Hook ferry landing?

There is no NYC Ferry municipal lot at Red Hook; Brooklyn Army Terminal is the system landing with a nearby municipal lot. Street and private parking around Atlantic Basin can change with cruise ships and events, so do not treat a forum's easy-parking day as policy. The B61, bicycle or a planned drop-off is safer.

Can I bring a bike from Governors Island to Red Hook?

Yes, subject to the boat's roughly eight-to-ten-bike capacity. Once the rack is full, crew may ask you to wait. Bikes normally stay outdoors on the bow. Red Hook has bike racks at the landing and several Citi Bike docks along Van Brunt, Coffey and Columbia streets.

Is Red Hook really the next stop from Governors Island?

Yes when the same South Brooklyn boat serves both: Red Hook is the adjacent stop, with no transfer. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable scheduled that morning hop at 6 to 7 minutes, then dropped Governors Island from later boats. Check the live stop list because that was a dated exception, not an all-day promise.

How do I reach transit from Red Hook/Atlantic Basin?

The landing is at Ferris Street and Clinton Wharf. NYC Ferry lists the B61 at Van Brunt and King streets; the F/G stop at Smith–Ninth Streets is a much longer walk. Red Hook is one place where the ferry can be the easy leg, so map the final blocks before boarding.

Does the Trust also run a Brooklyn ferry to Governors Island?

Yes. The Trust schedules seasonal weekend and holiday service from Red Hook and Pier 6, separate from NYC Ferry. That can be a useful alternative, but the ticket, departure point and timetable are the Trust's. Match the operator to the line you join and do not mix the two schedules.

Where should Access-A-Ride meet me in Red Hook?

NYC Ferry lists 176 Pioneer Street as the accessible pickup and drop-off point, not the broad Clinton Wharf description. Use that exact address for the vehicle connection. The landing has a covered waiting area, but no restroom in the waiting area, so plan the handoff rather than lingering.
