Questions riders ask before this trip
Governors Island–Wall Street on the South Brooklyn route is the slower, neighborhood-threading cousin of the direct seasonal shuttle. It reaches the same two landings, but usually calls at Red Hook and Atlantic Avenue on the way. Choose it when the timetable fits or when those stops are part of the pleasure, and choose the dedicated shuttle when eight direct minutes are what you need.
How early should I arrive for the South Brooklyn ferry to Pier 11?
Arrive before the departure with enough time to confirm that you are in the South Brooklyn queue, not assuming every Manhattan-bound boat is the direct shuttle. Boarding is first-come. Yankee Pier's route pattern changes, so check the live app before you leave the island and keep the Trust ferry in mind for the final return.

Yes. Both are NYC Ferry services using the regular $4.50 one-way ticket, available in the app or at landing machines. Transfers to another NYC Ferry route are free for 120 minutes after activation; a ride back is not. The Trust ferry is a separate operator with separate ticketing.

Nowhere near the trip if you can help it. NYC Ferry says parking is very limited by most landings and discourages driving, while Governors Island is car-free for ordinary visitors. Reach Pier 11 by transit or walking and treat Yankee Pier as a foot-and-bike landing.

Yes, while space lasts. NYC Ferry boats carry about eight to ten bikes; a full rack can leave you waiting. Keep the bike outdoors on the bow unless it folds to suitcase size. Both Pier 11 and Yankee Pier have nearby bike facilities, including Citi Bike at the island landing.

This page covers the South Brooklyn route between the same endpoints. In the current weekday pattern it travels through Red Hook and Atlantic Avenue before Pier 11. The dedicated shuttle is an approximately eight-minute direct trip offered only on specifically published dates, including limited special weekdays in the current feed through October 2, 2026. Choose by the service qualifier and today's schedule, not endpoint names alone.

Regular through trips put Red Hook and Atlantic Avenue between Yankee Pier and Pier 11, making this roughly a twenty-minute ride rather than the shuttle's eight. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable scheduled the morning-only through trip at 19 to 21 minutes; later boats skipped the island. Use the live departure pair because that was a dated exception.

Use the dedicated Governors Island shuttle to Pier 11 when it is running, then transfer onward if needed. NYC Ferry says all riders can transfer free from another route to that shuttle at Pier 11. The app's live route is the authority; the South Brooklyn label alone does not guarantee Yankee Pier is a stop that day.

Pier 11 is at Gouverneur Lane and South Street. NYC Ferry lists the 2/3 near Wall Street, J/Z at Broad Street and the 1 at South Ferry, plus the M15 and downtown connector. None opens directly onto the gangway, so keep a few waterfront walking minutes in the plan.
