Questions riders ask before this trip

St. George–Bay Ridge is the shortest Staten Island connection on the line: two consecutive stops and about 11 to 13 minutes underway. It solves the harbor crossing neatly, but the Bay Ridge landing sits on Shore Road, well west of the R train. Plan the land side as carefully as the boat.

How early should I arrive for St. George–Bay Ridge?

Reach the dock before departure with your ticket ready. Boarding is first-come. St. George is at 1 Bay Street; Bay Ridge is at American Veterans Memorial Pier. Confirm the St. George route because the larger terminal and harbor have several ferry services.

How much is the ferry between Staten Island and Bay Ridge?

The current regular NYC Ferry fare is $4.50 one way, bought in the app or at a landing machine. The two stops are consecutive, so it is one ticket and no transfer. A ride back requires another fare.

Can I park at St. George or Bay Ridge?

NYC Ferry lists paid parking at St. George. It does not list ferry parking at Bay Ridge, and systemwide guidance says parking is very limited near most landings. Use the B9 or B64 near Shore Road, or allow the inland walk from the R train.

Can I take a bike from St. George to Bay Ridge?

Yes if the outdoor rack has space. NYC Ferry boats generally carry about eight to ten bicycles. The bike can be especially useful at Bay Ridge because the pier is on Shore Road and the R train is inland, but arrive early because rack space is not guaranteed.

Is St. George–Bay Ridge direct?

Yes, with no intermediate stop. Regular weekday and weekend rows take about 11 to 13 minutes. NYC Ferry's September 28 through October 2, 2026 Sukkot timetable kept both stops in the southern service block and scheduled about 11 to 12 minutes during that dated exception.

How close is the Bay Ridge ferry to the R train?

It is not at the station. NYC Ferry places the landing at American Veterans Memorial Pier and lists the R at Bay Ridge Avenue and Fourth Avenue. The B9 and B64 stop nearer Shore Road. Count the walk or bus connection in your total trip.

Can I walk or bike across the Verrazzano instead?

No. MTA's published bridge guidance lists the bridges with pedestrian walkways, and the Verrazzano-Narrows is not one of them. For a bike trip between northern Staten Island and Bay Ridge, this ferry removes the harbor barrier. Keep a backup plan if the onboard bike rack is full.

What connects at St. George after the ferry?

The Staten Island Railway and several buses serve the terminal. NYC Ferry lists the S40, S44, S46, S74, S78, S42 and S52 nearby. The terminal also has paid parking, covered waiting, restaurants and restrooms.
