Questions riders ask before this trip

Richmond gives you 35 minutes on the water instead of more time wrestling East Bay traffic. The terminal is pleasantly straightforward. Arrive with a parking plan and check the weekday or weekend San Francisco gate before settling in.

How early should I arrive for the Richmond ferry?

Get there at least five minutes early. Make it 10 to 15 if you need to park or unload a bike. Regular service boards first come, first served, and popular departures don't owe late arrivals a spot.

How do I pay for the Richmond–San Francisco ferry?

Pay with Clipper, the San Francisco Bay Ferry mobile option, or an eligible paper ticket. Each rider needs a valid fare ready before boarding. Normal route service doesn't require a reservation.

Is parking available at Richmond Ferry Terminal?

Yes. The adjacent lot is free and has 362 spaces, but overnight parking isn't allowed. It is a good-sized lot, not an infinite one, so add a little time for a peak departure.

Can I bring a bicycle or e-bike on the Richmond ferry?

Yes, while the designated storage has space. Bikes and scooters board first come, first served. Follow the crew's directions, and check current battery rules before rolling up with an e-bike.

How long does the Richmond ferry take?

The published crossing is about 35 minutes. That only covers Richmond terminal to downtown San Francisco, so add the walk from your car and whatever last mile waits beyond the Ferry Building.

Which San Francisco gate does the Richmond ferry use?

Use Gate E2 on weekdays and Gate F2 on weekends, according to the current route page. Check the live departure anyway. Walking from habit to the wrong gate is a silly way to lose the boat.
