Questions riders ask before this trip
Sausalito is a lovely short crossing that gets busy when the sun and rental bikes come out. Arrive early enough to sort the line, bike, and payment without drama. Once aboard, Marin and the Golden Gate do the rest.
How early should I arrive for the Sausalito ferry?
Get there 20 minutes early if you need a ticket or have a bike. Golden Gate Ferry closes the gate one minute before departure. If the gate is shut, being able to see the boat won't help.

Use Clipper, an accepted contactless bank card or mobile wallet, or a paper ticket from Sausalito's machines. On the trip from Sausalito, payment is collected after arrival in San Francisco. Keep your card or ticket handy until then.

Yes, in paid public lots by the landing or at metered downtown spaces. There isn't a large commuter lot. Leave time to hunt for a legal spot, and read its limit before heading to the dock.

Yes, while the bike area has room. Walk the bike through the terminal and load it where the crew asks. During busy summer periods, rental-bike boarding reservations may be handled beside the landing on a first-come basis, so don't assume a bike guarantees space.

Go behind the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street. Check the departure signs when you get there. The terminal stays put, but the working gate can move.

Yes. Arrive at least 20 minutes early and ask a terminal employee for pre-boarding. You don't need to describe your disability. Tell staff what help will make boarding easier.
