Questions riders ask before this trip
Shaw is small, quiet, and unforgiving of assumptions. The terminal parking is short-term, the schedule may include several island stops, and the simplest trip is the one planned before arrival. You can reserve a vehicle from Anacortes, but not from Shaw back to the mainland.
How early should I arrive for the Anacortes–Shaw ferry?
Driving from Anacortes with a reservation, WSF advises arriving 45 to 60 minutes early. Walk-ons and bicycles should arrive about 20 minutes before sailing. The return from Shaw is first come, first served, so build extra time around the vehicle quota.

Passenger and vehicle fares are collected at Anacortes for the westbound trip. A vehicle reservation holds space; it doesn't replace the ticket you use to travel. WSF doesn't collect an eastbound fare when you leave Shaw for Anacortes.

Only briefly. If the plan depends on leaving a vehicle at Shaw, solve that constraint before the ferry becomes your deadline. WSF lists limited terminal parking with a 12-hour maximum. That works for a short outing, not an overnight mainland trip.

Yes. Follow crew instructions at the car deck because the island terminal doesn't have Anacortes-style overhead passenger loading. Bicycles may bypass the vehicle line, and WSF advises arriving about 20 minutes early. Shaw has one rack for eight bikes.

No. There is no hidden return booking; the absence of one is the rule. Vehicle reservations are available from Anacortes to Shaw, but Shaw departures are first come, first served. Check the sailing's vehicle quota and arrive early.

Often. Check the notes and destination sequence for your exact sailing rather than assuming every westbound boat calls at Shaw. San Juan Islands sailings use different stopping patterns, and some trips don't carry inter-island vehicles even when walk-ons and bicycles can travel.

WSF lists a waiting room and restrooms; seasonal galley hours apply aboard the Anacortes vessels. Ask staff early if you need assistance. The terminal has no overhead loading or elevator, so passengers board by the car deck.

Inter-island vehicles are first come, first served, and not every sailing carries them between every pair of islands. Read the schedule notes for the exact trip and tell terminal staff your destination before loading. Walk-ons and bicycles have fewer constraints.
