Questions riders ask before this trip
Friday Harbor–Lopez is close on the map and fussy in the timetable. Inter-island cars cannot reserve, some calls will not take them, and Lopez Village sits four miles from the dock. Read the symbols before setting off.
How early should I arrive for the Friday Harbor–Lopez ferry?
If you are driving, arrive early and check both terminal pages before joining the inter-island line. Walk-ons need enough time to reach the passenger loading area; bicycles and motorcycles should use WSF's 20-minute early-loading window. Deck space is first come, first served, and a drive-up estimate still does not guarantee boarding.

Walk-on passengers and ordinary bicycles travel between the San Juan Islands at no charge. Buy the westbound ticket online or at Lopez. Under the vehicle fare table in WAC 468-300-020, a vehicle or motorcycle pays only on the westbound Lopez-to-Friday Harbor leg; Friday Harbor to Lopez is eastbound and no fare is collected.

Friday Harbor has no terminal lot and only limited short-term street parking. Don't build an overnight island-hopping plan around Friday Harbor curb space; arrange a legal lot, drop-off, or ride instead. Lopez has limited parking at the dock for up to 72 hours.

Bypass the vehicle queue, arrive about 20 minutes early, and walk the bike on and off. The inter-island passenger and bicycle fares are both no charge. Friday Harbor routes cyclists through the passenger terminal and has racks along Front Street; Lopez has one eight-bike rack.

No. Join the correct inter-island staging lane and expect first-come boarding. WSF reservations cover vehicle travel between Anacortes and the islands, not trips between the islands. An online ticket pays the westbound vehicle fare but doesn't reserve deck space.

No. Match your vehicle trip to the footnote beside that exact departure. WSF marks some island stops “No interisland vehicles. Foot passenger and bikes okay.” Other sailings load traffic against the main direction, and the dedicated inter-island boat can follow a T-shaped island circuit.

A waiting room, but no food service, running water, permanent restroom, beach access, or kayak launch. A walk-on day trip needs a bike, arranged ride, or a deliberately modest radius. WSF lists portable toilets and puts Lopez Village four miles away.

Not necessarily. Use the displayed departure for this connection, then read its symbols and intermediate stops; don't estimate the trip from the channel distance alone. The timetable mixes direct-looking mainline movements with island stops and a T-pattern inter-island circuit.
