Questions riders ask before this trip
Vashon–Fauntleroy is the island's everyday link to West Seattle, but it's still a three-terminal route. The tiny schedule note matters. No fare is collected leaving Vashon, no car space can be reserved, and a sailing routed through Southworth turns a quick crossing into a much longer one.
How early should I arrive for the Vashon–Fauntleroy ferry?
Walk-ons and bicycles should arrive about 20 minutes early. Drivers need to check Vashon's terminal status and camera before joining the first-come queue, especially during commute peaks. The crossing is short; the line may not be.

No passenger, bicycle, or vehicle fare is collected when you leave Vashon. If you are starting on Vashon, head to the correct boarding line instead of looking for a ticket booth that is meant to charge you. WSF sells the round-trip fare at Fauntleroy for travel to the island.

Vashon has limited parking about a block uphill, with park-and-ride options in town. If you plan to walk on, pair the ferry with transit or arrange a drop-off instead of treating curb space as guaranteed. Fauntleroy relies on limited on-street parking and has permit-only spaces nearby.

Yes. The Vashon terminal rack holds roughly six to eight bikes, but aboard the ferry you must use the place the crew assigns. Bikes may bypass the vehicle queue and should arrive about 20 minutes early. No bicycle fare is collected Vashon to Fauntleroy.

No. A ticket bought in advance covers a fare; it never turns into a Vashon car-deck booking. Triangle-route vehicles load first come, first served. WSF's vehicle reservations apply only to Port Townsend–Coupeville and Anacortes–San Juan routes.

Some sailings do. Read the footnote and arrival time on the exact sailing; the same destination can conceal two very different trips. The route schedule marks trips that travel via Southworth and lists an approximately 45-minute crossing, while other departures are shorter.

Yes, selectively. Ordinary passenger cars aren't named; ask WSF about a modified, unusually low, or long-overhang vehicle. WSF's published rule says trucks with less than 14 inches of ground clearance may be unable to load on trips to or from Vashon during extreme low tides.

It can be. Check the bus connection on each side before relying on it, particularly at night; the north Vashon dock isn't the town center. King County Metro serves both the Vashon landing and Fauntleroy, and walking on removes the car-deck queue from the trip.
