Commuter guide

Questions riders ask before this trip

Bremerton gives you two very different Seattle ferries. In practice, this guide is for the Washington State Ferries car ferry: the slower, roomier boat that carries vehicles and gives the Sound a full hour to make its case.

How early should I arrive for the Seattle–Bremerton ferry?

Walk-on riders should aim for roughly 15 minutes before departure at Colman Dock. On the Bremerton side, allow time to park or enter the vehicle queue before the boat becomes a view from shore. Drivers need more room: WSF warns that Seattle waterfront congestion alone can add up to 30 minutes.

How do fares work on the Seattle–Bremerton car ferry?

Passenger fares are collected on the Seattle side and cover the return walk-on trip. Buy online if it saves time, but remember: a ticket is payment, not a reservation or a guaranteed vehicle space. A vehicle and its driver are charged in each direction.

Is there commuter parking near Bremerton Ferry Terminal?

Yes. Read the posted time and price before leaving the car; proximity is useful, but the wrong overnight rule is memorable. WSF lists several paid lots within three and a half blocks, including parking beneath the conference center and a city garage three blocks north.

Can I bring a bicycle on the Seattle–Bremerton ferry?

Yes. Follow the marked bicycle lane at Colman Dock, use the regular vehicle toll booths and queue for slip 1. Bikes receive priority access, and the passenger-and-bike fare is collected on the Seattle side. Follow crew directions when you reach the car deck.

How long does the Seattle–Bremerton WSF ferry take?

About 60 minutes. Read the exact sailing because the gap between boats matters as much as the hour aboard. It's one of the longer central Sound crossings, which is either useful quiet time or a scheduling fact you ignored at your own expense.

What is the difference between the WSF ferry and the Bremerton Fast Ferry?

WSF runs the roughly 60-minute boat for cars, bikes, and walk-ons. Kitsap Transit runs a separate passenger-only fast ferry that takes about 30 minutes and has its own fares and timetable. Pick the service before joining a line.

Can I reserve a car space on the Bremerton ferry?

No. An advance ticket shortens the payment step; it doesn't move your car ahead of the queue. Seattle–Bremerton vehicles are first come, first served. WSF reservations exist only on Port Townsend–Coupeville and Anacortes–San Juan routes.

What connects with the ferry in Bremerton?

The terminal is part of the Bremerton Transit Center, with multiple Kitsap Transit bus routes serving it. Check the bus time against your exact ferry departure because the connection is not guaranteed to wait. A matched timetable makes this a practical walk-on commute without a car at each end.
